Adult Foster Care History

In the mid-1970s, Massachusetts Adult Foster Care was launched as a pilot program with just seven member-agencies to assist seniors in remaining in a home setting by matching them with a caregiver. There are now over 100+ agencies providing AFC services across the Commonwealth and the number of members served has grown from 1,000 to over 12,500+. The Adult Foster Care program continues to experience growth through varied demographics, program integrity with new accreditation requirements, prior authorization systems, and ongoing training on program integrity.

The Massachusetts Council for Adult Foster Care proudly provides, Knowledge, Leadership, and Advocacy for the provider membership.
